Georgia Rae Family Band
Two sisters from the midwest, Georgia Rae and Kelly Jo have grown into quite a songwriting team since they began playing together at age 12 and 15. Their sound has grown from the traditional into contemporary Americana flavored with family harmony and youthful energy. 7 time state fiddle champion Georgia Rae and sister lead singer/uke Kelly Jo, are joined by a solid driving rhythm “punk rockin’ momma” on guitar, Joe Burie on bass and Laura Lanza on mandolin. They have been pedaling their recent CDs, "Into Our Own" and "Wingin' It" from Texas to MN and WI, and as east as NC. Their original songs are clever and catchy and evoke good vibes all around.
Julia Floberg is a cellist and singer-songwriter from Minneapolis, MN. When Julia was five years old, she went up to her mother and asked to play an instrument. A few weeks later, her mother brought home a cello. She has been playing the instrument ever since. Julia received formal classical training on the cello on the East Coast and at various summer festivals around the U.S.A. She seriously considered pursuing a classical career in music, but she derailed off that track when she discovered songwriting in her early 20s. The allure of the words, the power of the voice, and the simplicity of the structure captured her attention. She started writing and then found she couldn’t stop.
Julia released her first album, “Aporia,” in January 2018, a solo 18-track work of songs and poetry. Her second album, “Two Roads to Nowhere,” is a collaborative project with a full band and Julia on vocals, cello, mandolin, and guitar. The 10-song album has a folk rock sound and was released in May 2019 at the Icehouse in Minneapolis. Listen to the album at juliafloberg.hearnow.com. Beyond playing her own music, Julia Floberg also plays with the Delphia Cello Quartet, Mestifonía, and a folk trio called Lady Spruce. Julia often performs with Twin Cities singer-songwriters, including Mary Bue, Brianna Lane, Willow Waters, and Carlisle Evans Peck. On occasion, Julia gets in touch with her classical roots by subbing with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra.
