Carlos Lumbi is a singer/songwriter from Nicaragua. His musical style is folk/trova and his lyrics cover a range of topics, focusing on Central American socioeconomic and environmental justice issues. So, he talks about migration, children, environment, women…

He has also musicalized poems by Gioconda Belli, Ernesto Cardenal and Francisco Ruiz Udiel, among others. Along with his own music, he performs songs by friends from Nicaragua who also share a similar music vision. In the past he has also played in various musical projects in the Twin cities, MN.

El Taller del Amatl is Lumbi’s musical project that began in Leon, Nicaragua in 2005. Amatl is a Nahualt word that makes reference to the leaves of trees that indigenous people of Central America used as paper. Taller del Amatl, or “Paper Workshop” alludes to the creative group process of writing and re-writing poetry and music. Under this name, Lumbi has played with a number of musicians in both Nicaragua and the United States, and each musician has added his and her distinct sound to the project. Aside from Taller del Amatl, Lumbi also performs his music as a solo artist.
